While I was randomly searching what to write today, Came across this news about Tom Clancy breathing his last today. For people who do not know Tom Clancy, don't worry, I'm with you. I was just searching for trending topic in google and came across his name and his untimely death at 66.
At the age of 66, Tom Clancy is a great story teller and the author of many American best sellers dealing with cold war, military espionage and what a great credit, his best-sellers have been mostly made into blockbuster movies. I don't think there is no better accolade than an author's books being made as movies. Ironically, I haven't seen any of those movies. One of them being Patriot Games, which definitely is a well-known movie. I know it stars Harrison Ford and that's it. I was happy to confirm that it definitely stars Harrison Ford just now.
Just got curious and searched for the plot of "Patriot games" and came to know that it is a 1992 movie based on Tom Clancy's novel with the same name. His novel "The Hunt for Red October", which is a prequel to Patriot Games was also made into a movie.
I bet Harrison Ford became a super star after that because i remember seeing news in local magazines at that point, about a 50-year old Hollywood actor ruling the box office. When I now read the plot of "Patriot Games" I still see a lot of relevance to Indian movies being made today in the same lines wherein the hero is all over the world chasing and being chased by a group of villains, to say the least. So, just makes me wonder what an imagination and foresight in terms of building a story that would still be valid to make a movie after nearly 20 years.
I now understand why Patriot Games was a hit at that point and what a great way to depart Tom. One of this publications, "Command Authority" is slated for release this december. Just makes me wonder how passionate he must have been with his work. Tom, you are an icon. I bet there is going to be a movie on "Command Authority" too. This time, i will be one of the first to read it!
RIP Tom Clancy.
